The new exhibit at Palazzo Strozzi in Florence is the result of a ‘twinning’ between Florence and Paris. It seeks to illustrate the ‘miracle’ of the genesis of Renaissance mostly through masterpieces of sculpture, the figurative art in which that new season first started. More than 140 artworks showing the evolution that led to the flourishing Renaissance movement from the rediscovery of ancient art in the 13th and 14th century to the influence of the French Gothic art and of Brunelleschi’ sculpture, works by Donatello, Ghiberti, Paolo Uccello, Masaccio, Filippo Lippi and many more. The tour will last one hour and a half: we’ll show you the beautiful panels made by Ghiberti and Brunelleschi during the famous competition for the northern gate of the Baptistery; we’ll continue our visit of the exhibit with the magnificent S.Luis of Toulouse, an imposing statue made by Donatello in gilt bronze; people that like painting will certainly love the section dedicated to ‘sculpture in painting’ with masterpieces by Lippi and Andrea del Castagno and then you’ll see the glowing ‘terracotta’ by Luca della Robbia and many more incredible masterpieces… The exhibition will last from 23rd March to 18th August 2013 and then it will be displayed at the Louvre of Paris from 23rd September 2013 to 6 January 2014.
