The Blessing of the Wine-27th September

On 27th September don’t miss the traditional and funny parade of the ‘Carro Matto’ (Mad Cart), a big cart staked with thousands of flasks of Chianti wine and drawn by a pair of oxen! This tradion dates back to the 13th century when the guild of the Wine Makers officiously presented the blessed wine to the Priors, that is the representatives of the city, wo used to make a toast to honour the city. Presently, the parade starts from the Palagio di Parte Guelfa at 3.30 pm and reach the Duomo where the wine is blessed. After that, the ‘Mad Cart’ parades until Piazza della Signoria to present the traditional offer.
