This is the best time to visit Lucca and get lost in its pictoresque streets and squares! From 24th to 28th April 2013 Lucca celebrates its beloved Saint Zita: she was born in 1218 in a poor family and went to work as a servant in wealthy family of the city. She used to bring food to the poor people but one day her master saw her hiding something in her apron. He asked her what she was carrying and she answered “Just flowers and leaves”. When she opened her apron, leaves and flowers felt on the ground….This is the most famous among the miracles attributed to her and that’s why every year Saint Zita is celebrated with a fest of flowers! The lovely Amphytheatre Square and its adjacent streets will host a colorful and cheerful market of flowers and plants while daffodils, symbols of Saint Zita’s purity, will be sold in front of San Frediano Church where the saint’s body is displayed. A perfect way to celebrate this enchanting city and the spring arrival!
