Northern door of Florence Baptistery moved for restoration

After the restoration of the famous Paradise Gate made by Lorenzo Ghiberti in the 15th century, it’s the turn of the northern door of the Baptistery of Florence. Ghiberti made it between 1402 and 1424 and since then it’s never been restored. On 19th March the door was transported to the ‘Opificio delle Pietre Dure’, the institution that’s in charge of most of the restoration works in Florence. Transportation was very difficult due to the 8 tons weight of the door! Experts think that the door will be again on display by October 2015 when the Pope is coming to Florence.
