What’s up in Florence on New Year’s Eve? The answer is a lot of free concerts in the squares of our city! Go to Piazza della Signoria if you love classical music: at 11 pm there will be a concert with music by Strauss, Bizet and Offenbach; in Piazza della Stazione (railway station square) the Italian band Subsonica will perform at 10.45 pm followed by Dj set. In Piazza della Repubblica a jazz concert will start at 9.30 pm, while if you like the music of the ’70s go to Annigoni Square! And last, but not least the Santissima Annunziata Square will house a Gospel music concert starting at 10.45 pm!
If you’re coming to Florence to discover its art, good news for you! On Monday 31 the Uffizi and the Galleria dell’Accademia will be extraordinarily open (from 8.15 am to 6 pm) as well as Palazzo Vecchio (until 7 pm) and the beautiful Bargello Museum and San Marco Museum (both open until 1.50 pm). All churches will be open to visitors.
On 1 January, if you want you can visit the Archeological Museum (1.30 pm-7 pm), the very interesting Opificio delle Pietre Dure (2 pm-7 pm), Dante Alighieri’s House (10 am-5 pm), Palazzo Medici Riccardi, absolutely to be seen for its Magis’ Chapel painted by Gozzoli in the 15th century, a jewel! Also Santa Maria Novella Church will be open, while all the other churches and museums not mentioned here will stay closed.
We also remind you that Florence has two skating rinks: one at the Parterre, in Piazza della Libertà and another one at the Winter Park (Lungarno Moro), a park that’s been recently open, and where there is also a ski and snowboard run!
